General policy
Students from other higher education institutions can request the admissions department to evaluate credits earned at their. In general, it is the institution’s policy to accept credits earned at other higher education institutions at the undergraduate, graduate and in certain cases also postgraduate level, provided that such credits have been earned through courses appropriate to the student’s degree program at our institution. The admissions department reserves the right to accept or reject credits earned at other institutions of higher education.
There is no time limit within which credits need to have been earned or courses need to have been completed in the past. It is the institution’s opinion that qualifications, and credits and courses within those qualifications, hold their value over time.
At United Institute, the Admissions Department confirms the transfer credits.
At Metropolitan Business School, the Metropolitan Examination Committee is authorized to confirm the transfer credits as proposed by the Admissions Department.
Transfer limits per level and program
Our limit of possible transfer credits, depending on the level and program of choice is detailed in the tables below.
Graduate programs | Maximum number of transfer credits | Required credits to earn |
Graduate Certificate | – | 12 EC |
Graduate Diploma | – | 24 EC |
Master of Business Administration | 20 EC | 40 to 60 EC |
Master in Business Studies | 20 EC | 40 to 60 EC |
Master in International Management | 20 EC | 40 to 60 EC |
- Visa students transferring credits at the graduate level need to be enrolled for courses for a minimum of 3 academic quarters on a full-time basis, to be aligned with the visa requirements. This might result in the transfer of less credits or enrollment into a course-based program. Students are recommended to contact the admissions coordinator directly for additional information based on their specific transfer credits.
Program transfer
Applicants transferring the maximum number of credits or transferring credits from non-business-related programs are recommended to consider the Business Studies programs, as they are the most flexible programs. The Certificate, Diploma, Associate, Bachelor and Master in Business Studies programs consist of mostly electives and will therefore allow students to transfer the highest number of credits and complete the missing requirements in a shorter time. In case these applicants decide to apply for any of our other programs, they can expect a lower number of credits to be transferred due to specific program requirements.
Non-transferrable credits and other restrictions
We reserve the right to deny credit for courses that are not compatible with the program requirements of our undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs. Examples of credits that cannot be transferred are listed below:
- Credits earned for courses that are not at the higher education level (high school courses, foundation courses, etc.)
- Credits earned for repeated courses with the same course content
- Credits earned through internships
- Credits earned for English language courses
- Partial credits
- Credits earned at another institution, during the time of studies at our institution and without prior approval from our institution
Transfer credit evaluation
Students interested in transferring their credits to us can submit a copy of their official/unofficial transcript through the online application system. Screenshots of online transcripts are not accepted.
Once received, the admissions coordinator will provide the applicant with an estimate number of possible transfer credits based on your selected level of program. To confirm the number of transfer credits, applicants need to enclose a copy of their official transcripts when submitting their application. In case the transcript does not include the number of credits per course, applicants are required to submit additional information regarding the workload associated with each course as well as the course content.
The final assignment of transfer credits is completed by the Admissions Coordinator once the student has confirmed his/her acceptance into the program, by completing the payment of the first quarterly fee. The final number of credits might differ from the estimated number, depending on the program selection, specific program requirements and other academic requirements including but not limited to for instance level 3000 courses at Undergraduate level.
The Admissions Department can only take into consideration transcripts submitted before the start of the student’s studies.
Most common transfer credit coefficients:
External credit system | European Credits (EC) |
1 US credit | 1.5 EC |
1 UK credit | 0.5 EC |
1 EC | 1 EC |
Others | Dependent on the workload (30 learning hours = 1 EC) |
